Description

The Acoustic Ranger AR5000 has now been discontinued by Phoenix ISL, however RFS has a unit still available

Phoenix Inspection Systems Limited has produced the Acoustic Ranger for over 20 years and this fifth generation system offers improved range, resolution and sensitivity whilst maintaining the principles that the results are easy and quick to obtain and interpret.

Blockages caused by the process residue and corrosion product build-up and leaks caused by the material wall thickness reduction can occur in the most unexpected and inaccessible locations without warning.

The established approach to detecting and locating such problems usually involves expensive and disruptive engineering intervention entailing the removal and subsequent re-instatement of insulation and the erection of scaffolding. Even then, the techniques available to pin-point the problem are not efficient. The effects on production and costs are only too obvious but what is the alternative?

This inexpensive and portable system is able to efficiently detect and locate the presence of blockages and leaks without the need to remove insulation or to erect vast areas of staging. The power and petrochemical industries have saved millions by judicious use of this equipment. The AR 5000 emits a sonic wave which runs along the inside of the pipe, following it around bends and even complex spirals. It can detect and locate holes, blockages or foreign bodies in up to 500 metres of tubing at inspection rates of up to 800 tubes per hour.

The AR 5000 is the latest version of our acoustic ranging instrument and offers improved portability, integrated control and improved range and detection levels.

Applications:

  • Proving vent lines and pressure relief streams clear
  • Heat exchanger and condenser tubing examination for debris and through wall holes
  • Positioning blockages and equipment within pipework
  • Proving process pipework serviceable both during commissioning and following shut down
